Brides Are Wearing This Red-Carpet-Inspired Diamond Jewelry, But It’s Not Rings

THIS SEASON, BRIDES ARE taking their cue from the necklaces they saw on red carpets, particularly the elegant styles seen at Cannes Film Festival 2019. The standout diamond necklace hits a responsive cord among the wedding set. Delicate and lacy, often with a floral or celestial motif, these necklaces are striking without being overpowering, and they are versatile enough to shine on long after the big day has passed. Plum pickings Lisa Haydon can make anything look fabulous, but we suspect that her striking appearance at Amit Aggarwal’s show, was entirely the designer’s doing. Amit sold the deep purple hue with his interesting take on the sari. Crafted from recycled fabric, Lisa’s runway look comprised a sari gown with an intricate micro plissé pallu and thigh-high slit.  Make the plunge Necklines are set to be a lot more daring this season, with Saksha & Kinni, Nachiket Barve and Manish Malhotra showing an affinity for it in their collections. The One Thing That Protects a Laptop After It’s Been Stolen

When your laptop is lost or stolen, you aren’t just out $800 (or more). Your personal information is also accessible to whoever takes it, even if you have a password. “Unfortunately, a typical password-protected user account does nothing to protect your data,” says Dennis Stewart, a security engineer at CipherTechs. “While the password will prevent someone else from logging into your computer, an attacker can still use other methods to copy files off.” If thieves remove the hard drive and put it into another computer, they have access to any files you have stored on it. In some cases, they can even reset the password on your PC and gain access to your email, passwords and other personal information. Thankfully, you can protect your data against both of these types of attacks with encryption. “Encryption is a mathematical process used to jumble up data. If important files or whole devices are encrypted, there is no way to make sense of them without the key,” Mr. Stewart said. That means if thieves try to access your information, they’ll find only a jumbled mess unless they have your password, and they won’t be able to simply reset that password if the device is encrypted. Encrypt...

RECALL: Wheels can separate from inline skates, causing fall hazard

(WAFB) – Some inline skates have been recalled due to the potential of the wheels separating from the frames, posing a fall hazard. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says the K2 Sports VO2 S inline skates pose a fall hazard because the skate axle can become loose or part of the axle can sheer off, resulting in a wheel separating from the skate’s frame. About 2,700 pairs of skates are being recalled in the U.S. Adjustable Roller Skate Consumers should contact K2 Sports at 866-734-5746 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or email k2vo2s@k2sports.com. Consumers can also go online to www.k2skates.com and click Safety Alert Regarding the VO2 S Skate for more information. The safety commission says consumers should stop using the skates immediately and contact either K2 Sports or the store they bought the skates from to return the skates for a free pair. No injuries have been reported at this time. The skates were sold online and in stores throughout the country between January and May of 2019 for between $280 and $300. Rachael Thomas is a Digital Content Producer for WAFB. She was born in New Orleans and moved to Baton Rouge in 2015. Roller Skate, Ic...

Lasersaur That Cuts 1/2″ Plywood And 10mm Acrylic (Pew-Pew)

Remember when building your own 3D printer was a big deal? We’re starting to think that building your own laser cutter might be the next hot topic. Boasting a 16,000 square-foot facility, the Dallas Makerspace is an impressive collaboration of local artists, engineers, makers, and thinkers. Recently they embarked on building a serious laser cutting machine. They chose to go with the an open-hardware design rather than buying an off-the-shelf unit. What they built is based on the Lasersaur plans. (Another popular open-source build is the buildlog.net unit.) They ended up with a huge 24″ by 48″ cutting bed and with a laser tube rated for 100 watts continuous output. It can cut 1/2″ plywood and 10mm acrylic with ease. The entire machine is built from 20mm Misumi aluminum t-slot extrusions, making more like a giant erector set then a commercial built machine. We hadn’t seen too many of the Lasersaur builds out in the wild, so we thought you might like to see one too. Now, before you start ordering parts to build your own, you should know that a top of the line build like this will run you about $7-10k. But by comparison if you were to go with something with the same cutting area and...

When Fractal Design introduced its Define S chassis a little over three years ago, PCs—and indeed, PC cases—looked a lot different than they do now. Power-supply shrouds were rare, and builders didn’t take any issue with a neat bundle of slack cabling zip-tied up in front of their PSUs. Since that time, most every case designer has embraced the shroud at every price point. A visible power supply and cabling these days is kind of like jorts: functional, but unfashionable. The space demands on the average case have changed, too. With the ever-greater density of hard drives and the increasing accessibility of NAS boxes, builders don’t need 10 local 3.5″ devices to reach 10 TB of storage in a system. They can just slap one big drive in there or plug in a Gigabit Ethernet cable to reach their disk array. SSDs don’t take up as much space as they used to, either. Builders rarely need to choose 2.5″ storage when even SATA SSDs can go right on the motherboard, and the majority of NVMe drives need an M.2 slot to work at all. Some elements of a system build aren’t so amenable to miniaturization, of course. Radiators can’t escape the laws of thermodynamics, for just one example, so lots of ...
